With SaaS being known to everyone which allows us to use many software applications on a subscription basis hosted on the cloud, now that the Microsoft is offering its Windows as a Service. The Cloud based PC that you can access from any device. What? Yes, you heard it right.

First off, what is Windows 365? Is it just a more advanced version of windows 11? Well, it turns out windows 365 is a cloud PC. It is a new service that will let businesses access Cloud PCs from anywhere, streaming a version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 in a web browser.

You can now access your cloud PC from any of your devices. Maybe you have a tablet sitting around at home, maybe you have an android phone or a chrome book or a really old Windows PC. You can use any one of those devices to log on to your cloud PC and the good thing is, let’s say you connect on your tablet and then maybe you connect on your chrome book. Everything on your cloud PC will be exactly how you left it from the previous device. Basically, all you need is an internet connection that’s fast enough to stream movies and you’ll be able to access your windows 365 cloud PC.

You may know, that virtualization and remote access to PCs have been available for more than a decade, Microsoft is banking on Windows 365 to provide Cloud PCs to businesses as they transition to a hybrid of office and remote work. Windows 365 will work on any modern web browser or through Microsoft’s Remote Desktop app, allowing users to access their Cloud PC from a variety of devices.

Okay great, how can I get this? Unfortunately, Windows 365 will only be available for businesses initially during launch in the beginning of August, with a per-user monthly subscription cost. Also, pricing is not known until the service launches early next month, but Windows 365 is intended for one-person businesses up to enterprises with thousands of employees.

It is said that there will be two editions of Windows 365: Business and Enterprise. Both are powered by Azure Virtual Desktop, and individual Cloud PCs can be configured with a single CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage at the low-end, all the way up to eight CPUs, 32GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Microsoft is offering 12 different configurations for both Windows 365 Business and Enterprise, and businesses will be able to scale processing power, giving them a wide range of options.

By now windows 365 makes sense to you. But how does it actually work? How do you get a new cloud PC setup? Well, you’re going to have your IT admin setup and assign a license to you. They should also configure what your cloud PC looks like. They will be able to create Cloud PCs and assign them to employees in minutes, eliminating the need for dedicated physical hardware. Many firms that use remote workers or temporary contract staff who need to securely access a company network may find this appealing.

Hopefully by now you have a good sense for what windows 365 is and when you would use it and what some of the potential downsides are. What do you think about getting your PCs on the cloud? Just leave me a comment below.
